I just returned from a fantastic trip (minus the full day of flight delays) to Nashville to connect with my fellow Compass agents at our semi-annual REtreat (more on that below). What an amazing town and a wonderful way to kick off summer!

Hot on the (cowboy boot) heels of the Compass REtreat, I'm bursting (just look at that smile - truly bursting) with updates to share about how well-positioned my team and the company are to serve your needs both here in New York and across the country!
 
Held in Nashville, the REtreat was filled with southern hospitality, my great fellow agents, BBQ, music and, of course, informative insights and announcements. One of the biggest takeaways for me was the huge number of really talented agents that Compass has recruited throughout the country. When I began here about 3 years ago there were about 15 offices and 400 brokers at Compass now there are over 200 offices and over 12,000 amazing professionals that I can refer to if you have any friend, family, or colleague who is moving to a different city or town in the US (and soon internationally). Make Your B.I.G. City Dreams Come True

Because he is my favorite hip hop artist of all time I had to include this. The childhood home of late rapper Notorious B.I.G. is now for rent by Compass. Located on a stretch of Clinton Hill's St. James Place that was recently renamed for the star, the home he once described as a "one-room shack" is now an updated 972-square-foot condo with three bedrooms, one bathroom, office space, hardwood floors and high ceilings. Located in a four-story prewar building within the Clinton Hill Historic District, amenities include a common roof deck, garden, laundry room, bike storage and a barbecue area.
As a native New Yorker, I'm always intrigued by innovations that will help us get around town a bit more easily, quickly and, if possible, cheaply. While it'll be a bit longer before those autonomous vehicles get underway at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, it looks like e-bikes may be the next transportation method to get the thumbs-up from legislators. Last week New York State lawmakers approved a bill that legalizes electric bikes and scooters. The bill, reportedly the result of negotiations between state and city officials, also refines definitions around these type of bikes and stipulates where and how they can be legally operated. Sorry it's a no-go for Manhattan...
 
The move comes on the heels of concerns about e-bike safety among the city's largest operator. Last month, CitiBike pulled its entire NYC fleet of roughly 1,000 e-bikes from service — about 8 percent of the total CitiBike inventory — after complaints about over-responsive brakes. 
 
While the bill still requires Gov. Cuomo's signature to make it official, as of Friday, he seemed to be hedging on whether he would sign off. The legislation, if approved, would lift a state ban on e-bikes and scooters and give New York City and other localities the authority to regulate or prohibit the vehicles on streets. The law imposes speed limits of 20 miles per hour for pedal-assist vehicles and 25 miles per hour for throttle e-bikes used by delivery workers. Riders would need to be 16 years of age, and would be barred from city sidewalks and the Hudson River Greenway. Rules also give municipalities authority over e-bike share services, such as CitiBike, in their jurisdiction.
